Leading Edge Golf Weekly Roundup – 1/7

Happy Canada Day everyone! What a beautiful day to celebrate this wonderful country we live in. Just a reminder that we are open today until 6pm if you need anything on your day off.
Looking back at the weekend in golf we will start somewhere different than the professional tours as the Alberta Amateur was played in Lethbridge. Congratulations to Brett Jones for winning his second consecutive championship in dominant fashion. Entering the final round with a five shot lead, Brett went nuclear to shoot 63 in very windy conditions to win by a 12 (yes, 12) shot margin and becoming the first player to repeat at the men’s Amateur since 2012 and 2013.
Last week also saw the Calgary Ladies City Amateur tournament at the Calgary Golf and Country Club. Congratulations to Aastha Savadatti for the win and coming back from an opening round 79 to win by two.
On the pro tours it was a weekend of playoffs where Aldrich Potgeiter and the team of Jin Hee Im and Somi Lee both won in extra holes. Padraig Harrington took home the US Senior Open even after Roger Maltbie didn’t help look for his ball on the first day (more to come on that below).
Now that the golf season is in full swing and you’ve had a chance to play and practice it’s a great time to come in for a gapping session to find out exactly how far you hit each of your clubs. You can then use this data right away when you play next to pick better targets and make better strategic decisions when you know your carry and total distances. Call us at 403-640-0082 to book your session today!

Padraig Harrington was giving it to on course reporter Roger Maltbie after round 1 of the Senior US Open for not helping him look for his ball in the woods. Apparently, Maltbie was on standby to go live and felt that he needed to be ready to report on air.
Brooks Koepka and Steven Jaeger both smashed things on the tee after poor shots. You love to see it.
Meghan Kang had to get relief from a bike lane sign and then had her caddie walk on to the road to stop traffic while she hit at the Dow Championship.
Video from the US Senior Open shows Irish pro Padraig Harrington going at it with NBC on-course analyst Roger Maltbie.

Sounds like Harrington, who’s tied for first, wasn’t happy with where Maltbie stood. But Maltbie wasn’t having it either.
