Leading Edge Golf Weekly Roundup – 18/6

Technical difficulties prevented us from publishing this as usual on Monday, our apologies.

It was a winning score just under par in a tournament played in incredibly difficult conditions.  In short, it was a US Open at Oakmont.  After a brutal start that included one of the worst breaks you will ever see, where a 95 yard wedge hit the pin and rolled back 49 yards instead of settling in close for a birdie look, JJ Spaun came out of the weather delay on a tear.  As the field melted away around him in the rain JJ stood on the 18th green needing two putts from 65 feet to win.  After seeing the line from Victor Hovland’s putt JJ stepped up and drained it for his first major victory.  Spaun has played well this year, notably losing a playoff to Rory McIlroy at the Players, but is hardly a household name.  In a year that has seen Scottie Scheffler look unstoppable and Rory join the career grand slam club, there is something to be said about a player in his mid 30’s who has consistently improved take home a major.  With that, we are now 3/4 of the way through the men’s major season which always feels a bit strange given our season in Calgary is just starting to peak.  Next up for the men is the Travelers signature event this weekend and a major for the LPGA at the Women’s PGA.

For us at Leading Edge we continue to be busy with fittings and repair work.  One service we keep getting asked about is our Smart 2 Move 3D force plate sessions.  It’s a great time of year to book one of these sessions so you can learn how you pressure the ground during your swing and where inefficiencies are costing you distance or accuracy (or both!).  What you learn can be applied immediately to your practice and play so there is no reason to wait for the offseason.  Contact us at 403-640-0082 or info@leadingedgegolf.ca for more information or to book your Smart 2 Move 3D force plate session!
