Leading Edge Golf Weekly Roundup – 4/14

What a Sunday at Augusta. In one of the most memorable and exciting final rounds in recent Major Championship history, Rory McIlroy fended off the competition and his own internal demons to finally complete the career Grand Slam at the Masters. In a lot of ways the final round was a microcosm of Rory’s career. He began by blowing the lead he had built with an indifferent start. Just as quickly, he rebuilt it after leaning on his most powerful weapon, his driver. By the end of the front nine he had vanquished his LIV golf rival, Bryson DeChambeau, fitting for the man who had been the Tour’s most outspoken supporter when it seemed like LIV might be relevant. On the back nine, Rory hit a majestic iron shot that will live forever in Masters history (on 15) yet had to overcome both poor wedge (play on 13) and an unreliable putter (on 18). In the playoff with Justin Rose he put it all together, flushing his wedge from the same yardage he had in regulation to 4 feet and draining the nervy putt for the win.
There is a fitting angle to all of this too. Before his win at the Players, Rory switched back to his driver and woods from 2024. This isn’t to disparage his equipment sponsor’s 2025 clubs as they are excellent products. The point is that Rory had a set up that he could trust and he went back to it to find success. We try to do the same thing for our customers where we fit you into clubs that you can believe in so they will last longer and play better while you have them.
On that note, with the Masters finished and better weather on deck, the 2025 golf season is upon us. Call us now at 403-640-0082 to book your club fitting or come by to get your clubs regripped or get that repair done you’ve been waiting on since last season!

Jordan Spieth broke the Augusta language rules when he described mud as, well, mud. You can almost hear the green jackets clutching their pearls from here.
Apparently, Rory did not speak to Bryson at all during the final round yesterday. No comment.
Max Homa got a terrible break on Thursday when his punch out hit a marshal who was in the middle of the fairway. Max overcame it to finish in the top ten as he rebuilds his swing.
