Leading Edge Golf Weekly Roundup – 6/24

It was hard to score at the Women’s PGA Championship and hard to watch as Tommy Fleetwood collapsed on 18 on the PGA Tour this weekend.  In an extremely difficult set up, Minjee Lee won her third major championship at Fields Ranch in Frisco, Texas.  Lee came into Sunday with a four shot lead and played a steady round of 2 over to win by three shots over Auston Kim and Chanettee Wannasaen, who were the only three players under par for the tournament.  On the PGA Tour, Tommy Fleetwood couldn’t close the door for his first win on tour after a poor iron shot from 18 fairway and a brutal break on 18 green allowed Keegan Bradley to take the comeback victory.  Fleetwood had 7 feet for par and the putt looked on line until it hit an imperfection on the green and bounced away from the hole.  Keegan then had a very similar putt and buried it to further make his case for the Ryder Cup with (checks notes) himself.

We continue to have a lot of interest in our Smart2Move 3D Force Plates and for good reason.  This state of the art device provides unique and actionable insights into how a player applies pressure to the ground during the swing.  We had Malcolm in last week for a Smart2Move 3D force plate session with Rob and Jason.  First, we assessed his swing and how he applies force to the ground.  Then, since Malcolm is an engineer we explained the physics to him in a bit more detail than we might with other students.  What we found was that he was great at rotating but didn’t apply much vertical force in his downswing so we introduced some movement pattern training with force pedals, exercise bands, and specific drills.  Malcolm is already a 1 handicap who hits it over 300 yards but during the session he added over 5 mph of ball speed and we think there will be more gains to come as he continues to train on what we gave him.
