Leading Edge Golf Weekly Roundup – 8/12

Well, hard to believe it’s already the middle of August, both because time flies and it’s been looking like May with all of the rain.  Hopefully your rounds or club championship didn’t get washed out these past few weekends.

We continue to be busy with fittings even at this later stage of the season.  We have had a bit of a late season Iron refresh as we’ve seen the PING i240’s, Callaway Ai150’s, and we have almost all of the new Titleist T-Series fitting heads.  Remember that we are available for gapping sessions for you to find out how far you hit each of your clubs and our simulators are available to rent out if your round gets rained out!  Stay tuned for updates on what our fall season has in store at Leading Edge.

It’s tournament season right now though and there are several events being played around Calgary with the Calgary City Amateur at Lakeside and Turner Valley this past weekend, the Alberta Open underway now at River Spirit, and of course the Rogers Charity Champions Tour event at Canyon Meadows.  Best of luck to everyone competing in these events!

Fitting Stories

Something we are starting to do more is share the stories of our fittings to help customers understand some of the ways we go about finding the right fit for an individual.  Part of the reason to get custom fit for your golf clubs is that there may be a solution for a problem in your game that you haven’t even considered.

For this week’s Fitting Story, we had a customer come in looking for a new driver but was fighting a big slice with his old set of clubs.  This player had a ton of speed so distance wasn’t the issue as much as fighting the big miss to the right.  During the initial interview the player mentioned that he simply didn’t have any time to practice to improve his impact conditions.  When Dylan fit him he found that the extra loft on a PING G440 SFT 3 wood helped him hit the ball straighter and therefore farther than a driver with comparable specs.  Given the customer wasn’t going to be able to spend any time working on his game, they agreed that the 3 wood made more sense for him, especially as it gave him the option of hitting it off the turf as well as the tee.
