TaylorMade’s next generation of Drivers has launched and we are fitting them now at Ted & Dave’s.  The M3 and M4 replace the M1 and M2 lines from the past few years and there are some interesting upgrades in these new models.  Both models feature TaylorMade’s “Twist Face” which is a design tweak on the face that provides more loft in the high toe area and less in the low heel.  TaylorMade’s research has suggested that these two spots are among the most common mishits on the driver and the changes in loft should promote a straighter ballflight when they are struck (diagram below).  We are certainly interested to see how this design works for our customers during fittings.

In addition to Twist Face, the M3 features two adjustable 11 gram weights (compared to one in the M1) and a new Y-Track channel to position them not only forward and back, but toward the heel or toe (or both) in order to optimize ballflight.  The stock shafts in the M3 are the Mitsubishi Tensei White, Blue, and Red.

The M4 utilizes TaylorMade’s Geocoustic sole design which allows for a lower CG for higher launch while providing exceptional sound and feel.  A 41 gram weight is located in the back of the head to increase MOI (a measure of forgiveness).  The stock shaft in the M4 is the Fujikura Atmos Red.  The M4 also comes in a “D-Type” model which is heel weighted with a slight offset that promotes a draw ballflight.  The stock shaft in the M4 D-Type is the Matrix Platinum White Tie MFS5.
