Leading Edge Golf Weekly Roundup – 3/18
Did you get out and hit some balls this weekend? Maybe you got out to Fox Hollow for a round on the temp greens? Or maybe you stayed home and watched Scottie Scheffler win an all-time Players Championship? There were lots of great options for golfers this weekend in Calgary. The forecast for the next week is for a (hopefully-drought-mitigating) blast of snow but after that its almost time for the Masters and hopefully the start of our playing season. Do you have your club fitting booked yet?
Scottie Freaking Scheffler played out of his mind this weekend to come from behind and seize the Players Championship. A Sunday 64 on the back of frankly Tiger-like ball striking was a ton of fun to watch and it feels like we might be seeing the start of something special. Scottie was also the first ever player to defend his Players title in consecutive years. All of this after Scottie could barely move his neck on Friday and was receiving on course massages on every other hole while barely being able to get through the ball. The only disappointment was Wyndham Clark’s birdie putt lipping out on 18 to deny us a playoff between two of the top ranked players in the world. Can’t wait for that tournament in Georgia.
Hit the Links!
Adam Hadwin stepped on to 17 tee on Thursday having never hit in the water on the infamous island green. He dunked one. Then after nearly going in the water again with his drive on 18, he snap hooked an 8 iron from an awkward stance into the pond. The 8 iron then joined the ball for a swim.
Michael Scottie Scheffler handed out his PGA Tour Dundie awards last week.
Rickie Fowler was NOT having it when someone distracted him during his swing. The shouts of mashed potatoes and hell yeah Rickie in the background as he singled out the fan was chef’s kiss.
Golf Digest had this mouth-watering inside look at the pro-only practice facility at TPC Sawgrass.
Here’s video of incident at the 16th tee box. Romano told the same guy moments before to put his phone on silent multiple times.. he didn’t. Rickie was not a fan of him. pic.twitter.com/Vovx1RlM3X
